The Joys of home ownership

April 22, 2009 Posted by mitch | house | 0 Comments

My house basement has flooded since the day we moved in... don't ask, I'm not going into all of that... We finally have gotten that taken care of... only to have the kitchen faucet explode. Lots of fun.

Finally getting grass in the backyard!

May 23, 2008 Posted by mitch | house | 0 Comments

Well, its almost been two years of living here, and the landscapers are just finishing up laying sod in the back yard. Finally we can enjoy the back yard and the lawn care starts. We'll see how it goes. Its been funny watching Kira run around on the top soil for the last couple days. She hasn't had a yard to run around freely in since we left the old house. I'll update with pictures once its all done.

Grass! Finally getting grass!

August 24, 2006 Posted by mitch | house | 0 Comments

After 3 months of waiting, our landscaping is finally going to be finished by next week some time. I need to find out how much it will cost for the backyard, since only the front yard came with the purchase....

Long time, no post

May 12, 2006 Posted by mitch | house, life | 0 Comments

Lifes been a bit crazy as of late... if you couldn't tell by the lack of posting anything. We're in the process of moving. Moving! you might say.. yes we are moving... After a little over a year in this house, we have decided to sell it and we will be moving back up to South Jordan... The drive is killing both my wife and I, and with the prices continually going up, if we wait much longer we may never be able to afford one up in Salt Lake County again... So we did it, our house had an offer on it within 4 days of being on the market. I'll update after the move and I have an internet connection again! I will be updating the pictures we have of this house as well... so you can see what we ended with, and also pics of the new house!

New Monitor

April 25, 2006 Posted by mitch | house, technology | 0 Comments

Well... my 3 year old monitor is having issues... kinda wish I would have bought the warrantee now, but oh well. My wife was gracious enough to allow me to buy a replacement because its giving me headaches... It's slightly fuzzy and it makes trying to read text difficult at best. Which is what was giving me headaches. I read alot, and lately all I've wanted to do at the computer while at home is watch the show's I've recorded or downloaded. Since I'm kinda a weird case when it comes to my vision... Direct sunlight it will give me a headache too(and what self respecting geek wouldn't claim such a thing anyway?)... so while outside I will almost always have my polarized sunglasses on. Its about the only way I can stand it. Anyway, back to the monitor, I found a pretty good deal for a ViewSonic 19" Widescreen LCD, and it is set to be delivered tomarrow! I'm excited. It was on its way up from Vegas last I checked. I love newegg.

I was blessed with wireless for christmas!

December 27, 2005 Posted by mitch | house, technology | 0 Comments

Listing what I got for christmas would be so prosaic, I decided not to. However, I did want to say that I absolutely love the wireless access point my little bro got me! I love it. I've been trying to convince Elissa that it would be nice to have one... but shes not so easily convinced of my need for geek stuff. :) So my bro, hooked me up with a Linksys WRT54G. Hopefully they figure out how to hack the newer revs of these so I can get more linux lovin from it. :)

Once again, thanks bro!

And we have pergo

June 12, 2005 Posted by mitch | house | 0 Comments

Well sortof... We are currently a little over half done with installing the pergo flooring into our kitchen. Its taken a while because of some of the weird shapes that need to be cut around. However, we should be finnished today. Elissa's grandparents will be comming back down to help later and it should only take a couple hours to finish up. I should be able to post pictures today if I get my computer setup....

** UPDATE **

Well, we finnished finally!! It was midnight before we finally finnished, and we couldn't have gotten it done that fast without the help of Elissa's grandparents and uncle Bill. Elissa and I are very gratefull for their help for this project. They were a tremendous help. Anyway, now what your all waiting for, PICTURES! Which are found at the usual place.

And we have carpet!

June 2, 2005 Posted by mitch | house | 0 Comments

Its been a long time comming, but, finally we have carpet. Still have a few finishing touches for the living room to do, (hide the big vent hole and the electrical outlet in the middle of the wall, and clean and clear coat the hardwood) but other than that... we're mostly finnished... man... Its been 4 months and I'm ready to call it quits finally... hopefully we can be fully moved into a large portion of our house within the next week. I'm so tired of working a full day at work and going home to a construction zone to work some more... its been really annoying and alot of work. Time will tell if it was worth while :).

You can check the pics at the usual place.

First time mowing my law!

May 10, 2005 Posted by mitch | house | 0 Comments

I mowed the lawn for the first time at the new house yesterday! wow, never thought I'd be excited about that... It was getting to be quite the jungle however, and since it didn't rain all day at the house yesterday, it seemed like the best time to just get it done. I never realized exactly how much crab grass I have though... Must remember to put down crab grass killer in febuary or so next year... But for now, some weed and feed is a must...

We have sheetrock!

May 9, 2005 Posted by mitch | house | 0 Comments

After some skepticism on my part, we were actually able to get most of the sheetrock put up over the weekend. However, it would not have happened without the help of Elissa's(my wife) grandparents and my dad. All of whom spent the better part of 9 hours or so helping us get it all done. Many thanks.

I've updated the pictures and they can be found here.

Trouble in the home remodel

May 3, 2005 Posted by mitch | house | 0 Comments

Just when you think things can't get much worse... it will. We've been going on two months (or is it 3?...) of remodeling the house, and the latest setback has been our old tile ceiling caving in. Now, don't go thinking it was the roof, because it wasn't. The old ceiling tiles, made out of the same material suspended ceilings are made out of, are what collapsed. The previous owner, durning the last remodel, instead of removing the old set, chose to just glue more ontop of the old... making it twice as thick and heavy. I had steped on a corner of the ceiling and made it sag during my escapades with rewiring, and we were in the process of fixing it last saturday when the whole thing came down. No one was injured however, my cell phone was a casualty in the accident. I'll be getting a new one by thursday.

Anyhow, I've uploaded some pics after the cleanup of the fallen ceiling. Which you can see, the air is still very dusty. And also some of our fancy sheet rock work from my day off yesterday.

Those pics can be found in my pics section here.

Dishwasher installed!

April 18, 2005 Posted by mitch | house | 0 Comments

Elissa's Grandpa came over satuday and helped us get the Dishwasher installed, he also took a look and figured out why the fridge was leaking! Basically I didn't get the hose all the way fitted like it should have been... that was the problem. Anyway, we have a fully working kitchen now! We just have to finish moving into it... :)

Kitchen Sink Finished!

April 14, 2005 Posted by mitch | house | 0 Comments

I finally finnished the kitchen sink! Atleast the garbage disposal works along with the drain... I still need to hook up the dishwasher and figure out why and what I can do with the icemaker in the fridge. I've got pictures of the finished drain, and I will post those sometime... keep checking!

I've been promising them, and finally here they are. You can check out the remodel goodness in the pics section under the "Old_House" folder.

We finally got our countertops!

March 25, 2005 Posted by mitch | house | 0 Comments

Our kitchen is finally actually starting to resemble a kitchen. My dad and little brother came over wednesday and helped put the last cabinet on the wall, which helped a bunch with how the kitchen looks. Yesterday we had our smooth surface counter top installed, and its all finaly starting to come together. I really need to get pictures up soon with whats been done. I think my memory card is just about full... Hopefully I can get that done monday or something. I will post when I get it done. As for the house.... the kitchen is nearing completion, and a worst case senario, we will be using it a week from today. The plan is to have it a "working" kitchen by tuesday or wednesday of next week. Electrical for the "fire place room" and the one light in the kitchen is planned for tomorrow, and I'm hopping we can get the plumbing in for the kitchen sink in as well. That will allow us to use the dishwasher, and water/ice from the fridge. All in all I'm really looking forward to getting it completed. It really sucks not having a kitchen... not being able to cook anything really... its horrible.

I have an internet connection!

March 21, 2005 Posted by mitch | house, internet | 0 Comments

Had the comcast guy come out and install last thursday. So I now have internet! However, the problem is, the room its in needs to have more power run. I need to have a ground for the outlets much like what we've already done for the kitchen. I've gotten as far as ripping off all of the ugly panneling, and most of the sheet rock. So that will be my plans tonight hopefully... rip off the rest of the sheet rock, so its ready for wiring.

Moving pains

March 10, 2005 Posted by mitch | house | 0 Comments

Well, its been almost a month! and I haven't written anything... mostly because I don't have internet at home anymore... also, we pretty much ripped out the whole kitchen out of our house before we moved in for some upgrading. Its been alot of sleepless nights trying to get it back together. Its still only partly finished. Cabinets are halfway done, still have two more to hang. Then its on to the floor... we bought some Pergo Laminate flooring but have been waiting untill everything else is done before we lay it down. I want to get some of the "fireplace room" drywalled and primed before we lay it down to, just so it doesn't get all dusty from that process. We will see however...

Bought a house

February 19, 2005 Posted by mitch | house, life | 0 Comments

We finally did it, we bought a house. We've been looking for over a year now... and instead of buying new like we've been looking at before, we got an old house in Orem. Since it is an old house, we are doing some remodeling before we move in. First up is the kitchen. Tonight my wife, my little brothers and I went in and we removed almost all of the cabinets in the kitchen so we could get at the walls behind them to run new electrical... Man its a big job... None of the electrical is grounded in the house and with my computer equipment, audio/video stuff for my home theater, and even some of the new appliances we bought all require grounding... So we don't really have a choice. I was really hesitant at first about even buying the house because of it... Its a really big job. However, we're going to do one room at a time and get it all completly rewired and make other improvements while we're at it. *sigh* wish me luck.

We got a LoveSac!

November 11, 2004 Posted by mitch | house, life | 0 Comments

I had ordered a LoveSac from a friend at work a while ago. I ordered the 5' Sac-O-Love or something like that with the microsued cover. Got it home today and puffed it up... its huge! It's going to be wicked cool as soon as it fully fills up. I laid in it for a while today... it was so cool. Its going to be really nice for watching movies :)

Moving Pains

July 4, 2004 Posted by mitch | house | 0 Comments

I never would have thought that we had so much stuff.... Since we had to move it all... it supprised me. We've collected alot over the last year of being married. Man... the good part I guess is that most of it is neeeded, we might only have been able to cut a couple boxes out if we would have really gone through it and thrown away stuff we didn't need. I guess another part of it was cloths and shoes we have... alot of which we don't wear. Main problem with that however is that they don't fit anymore... the hole weight thing after you get married.... yeah, I haven't been to happy about it. Anyway, I'm going to be hitting the club house every morning hopefully starting tomarrow. I would have to adjust my sleeping habits.

Without internet at home

July 2, 2004 Posted by mitch | house | 0 Comments

Well, my wife and I have moved... the new place is great. Still unpacking all the boxes however. Comcast isn't supposed to show up untill Thursday the 8th... :( So I'll be without internet at home for a full week. horrible!!

Atleast I have it at work.

Moving!

June 29, 2004 Posted by mitch | house, life | 0 Comments

The time has come, my wife and I are finally moving out of our first appartment and into our second. I hadn't really planned on moving into another appartment when we moved here I thought we'd move into a condo or house when we did move. However that wasn't what ended up happening. With things not going the way I had hoped at work, it kinda put a halt in that plan. So, we are moving because we really don't like the neiborhood... After my stereo was stolen out of my car, and we've had packages left on our door step ripped open.... Can't really trust the people living in the complex anymore. Seems like they're all a bunch of theives... I know thats a bit extreme to classify them all as theives... but their has to be atleast two... one that stole my stereo, and an other that was going to steal our package. And why someone in the front office signed whatever waiver which made it "OK" to leave the package on our door step is beyond me. I don't like that... I asked the place we are moving to... they said that they "always" take the packages and hold them in a special room untill we would come get them. I like that... Our current place has done that for us in the past with other packages... just this one time they didn't... it confuses me why they wouldn't remain consistent. So with that in mind... I've been sending all the packages to my parents house. Because I never had any problems there with anything I had ordered over the internet. Anyway... I'm rambling and I'm tired... still have some packing to do and my dad is supposed to be here at 8am to help us move. So... looks like I'll be getting up early... again.
