Rolls Royce sells more cars in 2011 than any other time in their HISTORY.
Need more proof that the top is getting further separated from the rest of us? Yes they introduced a new car in their lineup, at a lower price point... a *paltry* $250,000... instead of the $350,000 Phantom. What really irks me tho, is the battle between Democrats vs Republicans... like one is completely without fault and its all solely the result of the others politics. I know I vote for a lot of alternate party members when I vote. I'm tired of the two party system, its not productive, an hasn't been for much longer than I've been alive.
But, in the end... I don't even think a 3 or 4 party system would fix anything... until the money in politics is fixed. Corporations are not people, and money is not speech. Until then... The Zombie Apocalypse is just a matter of when, not if.
I will start off with saying that I love my Subaru WRX. Its alot of fun to drive. However, I couldn't really call myself a "car guy" if there wasn't a apart of me that still wants to drive a BMW, or any of the other number of cars out there that... are Real Wheel Drive. The all-wheel drive of the Subie is lots of fun in the snow... but provides little added thrill in the dry. Since, I can only afford one car for myself at the moment... I chose one that will work in all weather here in Utah. I would however remind that, I've always wanted an M3 (and now, more so the 1M). I could do a MX-5, but I just have a hard time seeing it beings much more than a girl car without a roll-cage, and that wide body kit I've seen on a few of them. The S2000 doesn't seem to carry that stigma in my mind for some reason tho? So... I'm actually looking at the BMW as being the only option.
Until the rumor mill produced the Subayota, and the result... the Toyota GT-86/Scion FR-S/Subaru BRZ. I would opt for the Subaru release... while more expensive...will come turbo charged. But, ultra light ~2700lbs, RWD, 6 speed manual, small sport coupe.
I honestly... can't wait... I really want to give it a test drive.
I saw this question on one of my favourite websites, jalopnik. Since I haven't posted anything here in a while... and really need to post something non-political.. because I'm going nuts... I thought this would be a good topic... and here's what I've got. In my 11 years of driving... and 9? years of actually owning my own cars.. I'm apparently more of the type that hangs on to them... Since the Motorcycles were concurrent... and so was the Maxima and Civic.
* 91 Nissan Maxima SE
* 96 Honda CBR600F3 (Motorcycle)
* 98 Honda Civic EX
* 06 Honda CBR600RR (Motorcycle)
* 08 Subaru WRX 5 Door
However, if we add in the cars bought with my wife, I would add in:
* 98 Honda Accord EX V6
* 08 Mazda 3s 5 Door
* 08 Subaru Tribeca Limited
And... then you'd notice I have an affinity for both Honda's and model years ending in 8....
Such is life I suppose.
I've been waiting on a physical to virtual migration on a server all day (its been failing...) so... I've had some time to "browse" my usual news aggrigators.... and one of them alerted me to the fact that Honda is selling their proving grounds!!!! And.. it saddens me.... I mean... not because Honda is selling it... but because I can't buy it. To have a road track that I could run whatever on, and offer the privilege to anyone else for $50... (ala: Nürburgring states side) sounds awesome to me.
I've had my Civic for 5-6 years now... and I think I'm ready to sell it. There isn't anything wrong with it, but I'm just tired and ready for something else. The idea of getting a new car has me going through the same process I did with all the others I've had. I originally bought the Civic EX with the idea I'd do an engine swap in it to make it even faster than a Civic Si... That didn't happen... so this time I'm not going to make any sacrifices. I want a car with All Wheel Drive. My civic's always been horrible when snow flies. Thats mostly been because of the tires I've chosen for it. Since I only recently switched to an all season 205/40R17... There were a few winters where driving on ice in tires made for water or dry weather is quite scary, and I wouldn't recommend it. It should be better this winter.
Anyway, along with the all wheel drive, I've been wanting a hatch back. Knowing those two requirements, that pretty much leaves me with two cars that I know of.... a VW R32, and an Audi A3 3.2 Quatro. I didn't really plan it this way... but they actually both have the same engine... The VW is a 2 door, and the Audi is a 4 door... I Love the looks of both, but currently I'm leaning towards the Audi because its more available... it will be considerably more expensive than my civic was... But I believe its totally worth it.
I've been told by my wife that I'm a difficult person to buy for. Guess its because its become known that I my wants are very specific and if you don't get what the specific one I want then I'm not satisfied... ? Least this is what my wife tells me. So I'm supposed to write up a big wish list today so she can either go purchase or order online my wants. Something I actually enjoy to be honest. I do want lists all the time, hence my Amazon Wish List listed in my links. Which I actually haven't updated recently... guess I'll do that today too. One of these days I'll either look for or write my own wish list, where I can link up what I want from many different sites, not just amazon. *sigh* if only there was more time in the day... :)
I'm going though my car mode again. By that, I mean I'm constantly looking at cars, and thinking about if I were to buy one which would it be? With that I'm also back into my VW GTI stage again, where I really want one. Yet part of me doesn't want to give up having all wheel drive. Enter the VW R32, this car is amazing, its the GTI with a 3.2 Liter VR6 and the Audi Quattro all wheel drive. How could you go wrong? I don't think you could... but the kicker is its not a cheap car :( They only made them in '04 and '05 and I'm seeing '04's for around 26k+ Which is still way out of my price range. I could go for an Audi A4 and get close to the same car... but it still wouldn't be the same, as they are not hatch backs. Tho I do like the wagon A4. I'm just kinda torn. As a '02 - '03 GTI VR6 is in my price range but doesn't have the all wheel drive. Or I do like the WRX as well. Couldn't afford the STi, but I can probably find a sup'd up WRX that would be close to the STi performance wise in the same price range. But again, no hatchback, and the wagon version is also appealing (given a certain amount of aftermarket parts). However then I would also have to get used to the feeling I have when sitting in a WRX. Don't get me wrong I love them, however I feel like a little kid when I sit in them... and not in a good way... There is alot of head room in a WRX, and since I'm not that tall, it makes me feel even shorter. But perhaps I've just grown accustomed to tighter fitting cars with my first car a '91 Maxima, and my current car the '98 Civic. I don't get the same feeling when I sit in an Evo or GTI, so that makes me resist wanting to just "get used to it".
Not sure what I'll do just yet, and I am probably going to wait until Elissa graduates from school anyway before I make any changes to the current status quo.
I've been juggling around in my head for a couple weeks over what car to get next. And I belive I've finally done it.... I want the brand new Subaru Legacy GT. To bad its brand new... will have to wait a year or two to get some used ones... Now, heres why: The brand new Subaru Legacy GT has the following:
Engine: 2.5-liter DOHC intercooled, turbocharged aluminum-alloy 16-valve 4-cylinder horizontally opposed Subaru Boxer engine with Active Valve Contol System (AVCS). Iridium spark plugs.
Horse power: 250 hp @ 6000 rpm
Torque: 250 lb.-ft. @ 3600 rpm
Curb Weight (pounds) (w/Manual Transmission): 3300/3365
That in and of itself isn't extremly pleasing, however, the block is *exactly* the same as whats in the WRX STi. *AND* (if that wasn't enough) most other parts on the STi are just bolt on upgrades to the Legacy GT(brakes, etc...). This means achieving 300-400+hp out of a car that will mostly be bought by/for house wifes that use it to get groceries and take the kids to soccer practice. Which means, insurance will be *much* less than a STi, it will also remain mostly out of the sights of police. Very cool! Now... I can't wait!
I wrote before that I wanted to buy a VW GTi.... Then my thoughts have changed slightly because of the future additions to the family, a two door may not be so practical. So, I've been thinking and when the time comes, I'll probably get a Subaru WRX (possibly the STi) OR an Evo... depends on price mostly... the Sub WRX is the cheapest of them, however, I'd most definately prefer the STi or Evo. What I'm saying is, I WANT A TURBO! :) I know this will probably make my brother jealous... especially if I get it while hes out on a mission... however, he'll just have to live with it. If everything was equal, I'd probably get the Evo over an STi, just because I love the look of the Evo. But I'm not *that* picky :) If I can get the STi for a decent price (when the time comes...) then I'll take it just the same. Anyway, thats how its going to be. Mostly my decision has been because I'm worried about the reliability of the VW's... I know they have quite the following, but I need something that people don't just say "Yup thats a VW for ya..." type of thing...
What is it about cars that draws guys to them? I mean more than just a way to get from point A to point B. I'm also sure you could theorize that its just something wired in a man's brain that causes him to pursue physical objects. I don't really know the answer, however I do know, I'm in love with cars. For a couple years now, even before I bought my Civic I've wanted a Volkswagon GTI(Golf). However, at that time I was weary of what Consumer Reports have said, and I knew Civics have so much potential anyway, I figured I'd just make my Civic into what I wanted. Well, since then I've gotten married. (not to say that was a bad thing or a bad decision) Its just now there are more important things going on in my life than investing thousands into making the Civic something I've wanted. Also, Honda's are known for their reliability. German cars reliability has remained kinda foreign to me. I've been looking around and from what I've found, they are reliable, just require attention. When they have schedualed maintenance, you take care of it right then or you will have bigger problems to deal with later. Which is something most people take for granted. To them a car is a mode of transportation, and maintenance is always the last thing on their mind. Anyway, I figure eventually I'm going to be buying my coveted BMW M3 one day... when I can afford it. In which case it would be nice to know more about German cars and how they work a bit better.
I bought the coolest DVD the other day Mischief Invasion. It has a stripped down, turbo charged M3 in it putting out like 450HP. It was wicked cool. Man I was drooling as I watched in amazement. Currently I'm ripping it to my hard drive so I can grab some of the best parts out of it. Just makes me want to get some more DVD's in this series(I have another one in the series, however its not even close to being as cool as this.) Every one in the movie is just crazy. Sadly they didn't get to run the M3 in the Cannon Ball Europe trip(it was stuck in customs), so they're causing havoc in a rental car which they eventually manage to sieze the engine after they hit a road cone going 100+mph. And they still manage to have more fun playing bumper cars in a round-about in France somewhere. Man...
Comments like "linux will never 'win' until it's easy to use" are silly.. Linux already won, it just isn't playing with you.
