2009 Subaru WRX > 2008 Subaru WRX

mitch @ 8:04 am on September 16, 2008

So… I’m glad my ‘08 Subaru is just a lease because I’d be very upset if I had actually bought it… The ‘09 is out and man… is it better. 41hp more! and the much needed suspension tweaks… My biggest complaint on the car…

So… seeing this.. I won’t be buying out my lease… I’ll run it out and it will be the end of my ever getting a brand new car… from now on I’ll be looking for a car that’s 2+ years old. That way I’ll know what’s coming so I can buy accordingly. Not to mention there still aren’t many mods out for the ‘08 and now that the ‘09 is different anyway… is it going to matter? My guess years going to be a wash…

In God We Trust?

mitch @ 8:47 pm on June 9, 2008

McCain: America is Established as a Christian Nation

I’m So sick and tired of this idea that this country was founded on some Christian establishment or ideal. Its so far from wrong it astounds me. Up until the 1950’s, the national moto was E Pluribus Unum, (”from many, one”) , and In God We Trust was not added until an Act of Congress in 1956. I know our school systems are bad, but since I wasn’t there THAT long ago, I know they are not teaching this. So where does this non-sense come from? The Media? ie: Fox News? or what? It’s absurd and I can’t take it anymore. I will call anyone out on this anytime I hear it… and this reason alone, I will NOT vote for McCain.

New CAR!

mitch @ 6:14 pm on January 20, 2008

Well…I did it… I went to the car show yesterday… and saw all the new cars… and from my previous posts… you can tell I like hatchbacks. I also have an affinity for all-wheel drive, which up until the 2008 model year… left me with a VW or Audi to meet those two likes of mine. However, since I’ve owned a couple honda’s (both bikes, and cars) and a Nissan Maxima, all of which I haven’t had problems with… the maintenance of these German vehicles had me a little on edge, and with the prospect of having a 20k+ car thats a good sized payment, to go along with the upkeep. Then Subaru does something they said they wouldn’t… they release a 5 door hatchback. Seeing it in pictures didn’t give it justice, and seeing it in person at the car show made me want to go see if the Subaru dealer had any used STi’s on their lot… (I know that doesn’t make sense… since i liked the hatchback n all…) But I traded in the Civic and leased a Impreza WRX Hatchback for what a used STi would have cost… and I much prefer the hatchback over the sedan anyway.

Over all, its got some power… much more than the Civic and I really love the look.

What do you think?Black 2008 Impreza Hatchback

first post of the new year

mitch @ 9:03 am on January 14, 2008

wow… 14 days into the year and this is my first post… starting the year out like i treated all last year… Anyway… lots going on currently… I have school and I’m contemplating weather I’m going to transfer to a new school now or wait until after I graduate with my Associates…

I’m also thinking about a new car again… and I’m back and forth (as you can probably see from previous posts) over which car I want… The only things that have remained true are that I’m favouring cars with all wheel drive and a turbo is always cool… So.. this leads me to what I’m currently thinking… I’m thinking I can currently afford a Subaru Impreza WRX STi. So… we’ll see.. probably won’t get any prior notification about me buying it, as it’ll probably be like when I bought my bike… however… me buying an STi… will probably also result in me selling the bike :( as much as I love it… I find I just don’t have the kind of time to ride it like I did when I was single… Also with my work schedule I hate sitting in traffic on it… it just seems like a waste to have it cooped up in traffic.

Also… probably going to happen before the STi, is getting some yard work done on the new house… including fixing my flooding basement problems… and getting the backyard with grass and such. So work can begin on the basement and upstairs… fun stuff…

Cars, next car I’m going to get…

mitch @ 11:01 pm on October 20, 2007

I’ve had my Civic for 5-6 years now… and I think I’m ready to sell it. There isn’t anything wrong with it, but I’m just tired and ready for something else. The idea of getting a new car has me going through the same process I did with all the others I’ve had. I originally bought the Civic EX with the idea I’d do an engine swap in it to make it even faster than a Civic Si… That didn’t happen… so this time I’m not going to make any sacrifices. I want a car with All Wheel Drive. My civic’s always been horrible when snow flies. Thats mostly been because of the tires I’ve chosen for it. Since I only recently switched to an all season 205/40R17… There were a few winters where driving on ice in tires made for water or dry weather is quite scary, and I wouldn’t recommend it. It should be better this winter.

Anyway, along with the all wheel drive, I’ve been wanting a hatch back. Knowing those two requirements, that pretty much leaves me with two cars that I know of…. a VW R32, and an Audi A3 3.2 Quatro. I didn’t really plan it this way… but they actually both have the same engine… The VW is a 2 door, and the Audi is a 4 door… I Love the looks of both, but currently I’m leaning towards the Audi because its more available… it will be considerably more expensive than my civic was… But I believe its totally worth it.

Car Problems

mitch @ 9:22 am on February 22, 2006

What a week… Elissa’s parents arrived from New York monday for a visit, and all the issues involving planes aside (its an even longer story and very painful).  Because of these various flight issues, we had to pick them up from the Las Vegas airport.  Elissa’s Accord has been making a weird sound for the last couple months, but because its been doing it for a couple months, I haven’t taken the time to get it fixed.  Which is a hard thing to do most of the time for us, we depend on our cars to get us everywhere we need to… Anyway, on the way down to Vegas, the noice got progressively worse… I was just hoping it would make it untill we got home and since Elissa has the week off we could take it in to be looked at.  Well… It didn’t make it.. we found out that it was the tensioner pulley (which was what I was thinking… didn’t know you could just replace the pully wheel tho… and not the whole assembly I was dreading that thought…).  Anyway the pulley siezed 20 miles south or so of Cedar City.  We made it there, but it was 4am.   No parts store was open, nor would one open untill 7am.  We waited around in the car and talked for 2 hours untill 6am when we went to get breakfast and warm up. (My brother said he saw on the news that it had dropped to 7 degrees that night in Cedar City…)  We were frozen.  After breakfast, we walked back to the car which was in the parking lot of the Napa parts store.  Luckily my father-in-law is a mechanic and knew how to get it changed.  Hes never worked on Honda’s before so it was still a learning experience tho :)  It took us about an hour and a half to get the pulley and belt replaced(probably would have taken me atleast 3 hours to do the same thing without his help), and we were then back on the road.  Fun fun.  Great way for them to finish off their trip to Utah… :)

Car problems

mitch @ 4:33 pm on July 10, 2005

I was on my way to school last thursday, and I stoped at a Chevron to fill up. After, I turned the key on my car to start it and nothing… It didn’t turn over… I still had the radio tho… which I thought was interesting however, this didn’t come completly by supprise. Oh no… I should know better I know… when theres problems get them fixed don’t delay. I delayed… I knew it probably was the alternator, but the battery probably needs to be changed too. Anyway, I called Elissa to come jump me so I could get it home atleast. After turning in my two papers for school, we jumped my car and I drove it straight to AutoZone. They put a tester on it and said the alternator wasn’t putting out anything. Figures, the year or so I ran my sub on it probably did it in. My lights would dim occasionally, so I knew it was comming just never got around to changing it.
Anyway, I picked up the alternator and went over to my parents to get it changed out. Looking at it it didn’t look like it was going to be all that bad to change (which was the reason I considered it in the first place). However, the bottom bolt on the alternator did not want to be loosened… the nut wouldn’t budge… I worked on it for probably atleast two hours… Untill I had rounded it off. Then I was done for the night. I started again friday night at 9:00PM because it was over 100 degrees that day, and I hate working in the heat. I brought my air compressor and used a cutting wheel to cut off the nut. Suprisingly enough the bolt slid right out after I completly removed the nut… Not sure why the nut wouldn’t come off because it wasn’t rusted and I tried turning it both ways (which seemed illogical… it should have spun off to the left like everything else does…) *shrug* don’t know if it might had gotten some kinda charge from the alternator and fused to the bolt or what… either way it didn’t matter at this point. Once I got the bolt out, pulling the alternator out proved to be a little more difficult than I would have liked. I ended up having to remove the power steering line from the pump. This translated into loosing the whole overflow… Pulling it out and putting in the new one was fairly simple after that.
I finished up around 1am saturday morning and started up my car to admire my handy work. Only to have it screetching at me… It was my power steering pump… it didn’t like how low it was on oil. So I ended up leaving it again for the rest of the night, and comming back later that morning with honda power steering fluid.

After adding it, it worked like a champ… It was even idling alot better than it has for a while. Never knew its idling poorly would have been caused by a bad alternator…. live and learn I guess :)

Car Update

mitch @ 10:42 am on May 27, 2005

I’ve been juggling around in my head for a couple weeks over what car to get next. And I belive I’ve finally done it…. I want the brand new Subaru Legacy GT. To bad its brand new… will have to wait a year or two to get some used ones… Now, heres why: The brand new Subaru Legacy GT has the following:

Engine: 2.5-liter DOHC intercooled, turbocharged aluminum-alloy 16-valve 4-cylinder horizontally opposed Subaru Boxer engine with Active Valve Contol System (AVCS). Iridium spark plugs.

Horse power: 250 hp @ 6000 rpm
Torque: 250 lb.-ft. @ 3600 rpm
Curb Weight (pounds) (w/Manual Transmission): 3300/3365

That in and of itself isn’t extremly pleasing, however, the block is *exactly* the same as whats in the WRX STi. *AND* (if that wasn’t enough) most other parts on the STi are just bolt on upgrades to the Legacy GT(brakes, etc…). This means achieving 300-400+hp out of a car that will mostly be bought by/for house wifes that use it to get groceries and take the kids to soccer practice. Which means, insurance will be *much* less than a STi, it will also remain mostly out of the sights of police. Very cool! Now… I can’t wait!

Changing car selections…

mitch @ 5:49 pm on April 18, 2005

I wrote before that I wanted to buy a VW GTi…. Then my thoughts have changed slightly because of the future additions to the family, a two door may not be so practical. So, I’ve been thinking and when the time comes, I’ll probably get a Subaru WRX (possibly the STi) OR an Evo… depends on price mostly… the Sub WRX is the cheapest of them, however, I’d most definately prefer the STi or Evo. What I’m saying is, I WANT A TURBO! :) I know this will probably make my brother jealous… especially if I get it while hes out on a mission… however, he’ll just have to live with it. If everything was equal, I’d probably get the Evo over an STi, just because I love the look of the Evo. But I’m not *that* picky :) If I can get the STi for a decent price (when the time comes…) then I’ll take it just the same. Anyway, thats how its going to be. Mostly my decision has been because I’m worried about the reliability of the VW’s… I know they have quite the following, but I need something that people don’t just say “Yup thats a VW for ya…” type of thing…
