Themes! and other website updates

June 27, 2006 Posted by mitch | website | 0 Comments

I did some looking today for themes to see if I could find one I like. Well, I've got two that I think are "OK" this current theme being one of them. The other theme has some of the same problems. However they both implement some nice features as well... So I'll be rotating the themes every now and then, and deciding which features I like between the two of them and I'll then encorporate some of my old themes features (which is what I think these two are missing) and these two new themes.

Oh! comments work so give me a shout about what all might like and dislike... and I'll start making a list as well in the comments for this post.

Laws, the president, your rights

June 27, 2006 Posted by mitch | politics | 0 Comments

What is it with this president? Its one thing after another, our laws mean nothing to him. First the NSA wire-tapping without the need for warrants? Watching three episodes of Law & Order and he would know that just doesn't work in a court of law. However, he also would know(just from watching a few episodes of that show) he would need a little thing called evidence to justify that warrant... So, since hes The Decider, he's deciding not to go for the warrant because he knows he couldn't get one if he tried? To make it worse he justifies it by saying "Terrorists"... thats right, hes doing it to protect us from "the terrorists". Uh huh... and who should the citizens of the US call to protect us from you? Mr. Decider? eh? If this wasn't bad enough, now theres a new one, where they're looking through bank records. Again... in the name of Terrorism... And hes calling the press that are printing this story "A disgrace", because its telling the "terrorists" what they're up to. I have no idea where he gets off... Looking through personal bank records of average Joe Schmoe and running it through some algorithm and if it falls within certain boundries, they get investigated by the CIA? What? so we're all terrorists untill this program says we're not? Guilty until proven innocent? Has this guy ever even READ the constitution? Which hes sworn to uphold by the way... And yet Clinton, "does not have sexual relations with that woman", and everyone's ready to impeach. How was that worse than whats currently going on? This guy has broke more laws in 3 years than any previous president EVER.

I'm so sick and tired of politics...

Website updates

June 25, 2006 Posted by mitch | website | 0 Comments

I've had broken comment links for a long time... just haven't taken the time to fix them... Currently the link is no longer broken, however the box for allowing comments doesn't show up. Its in the code, but it doesn't work. I'm not sure why at the moment... I'm thinking it still has something to do with my apache config. I'll be testing things off and on, so if my website looks a little weird from time to time, its just me testing. Try back in a minute or two and it should be back to normal.

*UPDATE*

Well it seems like its just my theme that has problems with the comments... which means that I will have to completely debug my theme to find out why its having problems... OR... I think its probably time I write a new theme... complete with new colors and everything... So, expect some site design changes in the comming months (what a time frame eh?  Sorry... life keeps me busy)  Complete with a new layout and I'll even include some fixes for my quotes so they don't mess up the layout when it displays one of the long quotes.  And if I find the time... I might make it work ok with IE :)

More on Network Neutrality

June 20, 2006 Posted by mitch | inernet, technology | 0 Comments

The issue is getting bigger and bigger, and more and more blown out of proportion... I am not for the government steping in and "regulating" the internet, because I know that will only cause more problems.  However, I do not like the fact that the Bells (Verizon, AT&T, et. all) are contemplating prioritizing bandwidth to whoever pays them the most.  People are clamoring all over this thought that we should just "let the market figure it out"  and that if people don't like this prioritizing they're getting from the Bells, that that they could just switch to a different provider.  In a free market with lots of competition this would be possible.  The fact is there is very little in the way of competition in the broadband space.  Thanks for the government kick backs and sponsored monopoly the Bells have been enjoying over the years, all with the promise of using the extra money to build a better infastructure to better serve the needs of their customers... ya know... the TAX PAYERS that footed the money to build this infastructure.   And here we are 2006, and we still don't have much more than we did in 2000.  We have maybe slightly better speeds, but overall, nada.  So, if we do decide to leave it to the market like these Bells would like.  I say we remove all their government sponcership as well... truely open them up, force them to remove all barriers and fees that they charge the the little guys that want to supply DSL service.  Or, better yet, we need more projects like UTOPIA Where there is an infastructure built from the ground up on fiber, and then allow any provider to provide service on the network.  Level the playing field for infastructure and let the providers compete based on the service they provide and price.

I've updated some pictures in the Album.  I've uploaded some of the pics at what we finished up on the old house and how we left it when we sold it.  I have also added some pictures of the new house.

Enjoy!

Global Warming

June 6, 2006 Posted by mitch | politics, thoughts | 0 Comments

Forgive me, as I've been on rants in my recent posts... and this is yet another one. The purpose of this one however, is because I've actually found some data showing what I've been thinking all along about this whole crisis called "Global Warming"

For years the media and environmentalists have been clammoring about global warming and if we don't stop poluting we're all going to die or something. However, their story has never made sense. They use reports that say that the water level in the ocean is rising because of melting ice caps, and in particular they said that in Iceland, the water is now at a level it was at 100,000 years ago or so (forgive me if the number is wrong, I don't have an article to double check, but the message essentually is that the current level the ocean is at... was also a previous level) Ok.... so the water level is rising.... so we should all be running scared right? Wrong, the real information is also in that statement, just at the end of it... this is *not* the first time the ocean was at its current level. The difference between now and when it last was at its current level? An ICE AGE! So... the earth is essentually still just warming up from the *last ice age*. Hardly a reason to panic. This was my thought, and heres some reasearch to back me up: Is the global climate changing? Is the world getting warmer? They have core samples from Antartica that say essentually the same thing... and from what they're seeing, and if history will continue to repeat itself... we currently are on the tail end of a warm spell. This makes sense, all the doomsday media doesn't.

This is *NOT* to say I don't agree with finding alternative fuels. Being dependant on oil is not a good thing, nor am I trying to say the polution we put into the atmosphere doesn't harm anything. What I am saying is that Global Warming is NOT being caused soley by us. Our polution certainly does contribute, but so does a volcano.
I support measures taken by our government to improve funding for research that leads to alternative fuel sources soley for the sake of having alternative fuel sources. If we lessen or even eliminate our harmful impact on the environment in the process, that is "icing on the cake".
