I haven't updated in a while because my home computer has been out of commission for a while... Not sure what happened... For some reason, both Gentoo, and Fedora have corrupted ext3 partions on my computer... Not sure if its because of the via_sata driver, hardware, or a combination of them. Any how, this last time, it corrupted my home partion and I had fsck running but it was taking *days* to run. I even stoped it and restarted it from a knoppix CD, and the fedora disk 1. They all took forever, and still didn't seem like it fixed anything when they were done. So, I lost everything.... I hadn't bought the Dual DVD/CD burner yet, so I didn't have any backups... which is completely my fault. Anyhow, this time around I'm going with a different filesystem for my home partion. XFS is what I desided to go with. I did some research a while ago and looked into its benifits and it seems to have quite a few. Dispite not being officially supported by Fedora, I think it will be able to handle my 107GB partion better than ext3. ReiserFS would have been my other choice, but found on the fedorafaq site that SELinux won't work on anything but ext3 and XFS. That sealed the deal, XFS it is. I'm currently loading it up right now, so far so good.
George Ou VoIP and open source, the next great frontier - ZDNet.com
What do you think? Are the Bells in for the same type of competition as what Microsoft has been dealing with for the last couple years? I believe they are. Since the begining of the internet, the Open Source Community has been the (subtle?) driving force behind the major advances of the internet. Up untill recently no company has really cared what the community was doing because they weren't affecting their bottom line. However, the community is moving up the chain. Linux is making *huge* in-roads in the datacenter, and threatening the Desktop. Something that Linus himself said would be really neat(he *never* said he wanted to over thow MS from their throne, that will probably just be a bi-product). The community has always been about the core infastructure of the internet. Because thats the only way to keep it free. As it becomes more and more involved in our lives having a *free* option availible becomes more and more important. I really believe that Open Source is the best thing for everyone. The community as a whole has whats really important to each and every one of us in mind. Most just buy into the marketing machines FUD. Its only a matter of time before software for the most part is a commodity.

cars, civic |
What is it about cars that draws guys to them? I mean more than just a way to get from point A to point B. I'm also sure you could theorize that its just something wired in a man's brain that causes him to pursue physical objects. I don't really know the answer, however I do know, I'm in love with cars. For a couple years now, even before I bought my Civic I've wanted a Volkswagon GTI(Golf). However, at that time I was weary of what Consumer Reports have said, and I knew Civics have so much potential anyway, I figured I'd just make my Civic into what I wanted. Well, since then I've gotten married. (not to say that was a bad thing or a bad decision) Its just now there are more important things going on in my life than investing thousands into making the Civic something I've wanted. Also, Honda's are known for their reliability. German cars reliability has remained kinda foreign to me. I've been looking around and from what I've found, they are reliable, just require attention. When they have schedualed maintenance, you take care of it right then or you will have bigger problems to deal with later. Which is something most people take for granted. To them a car is a mode of transportation, and maintenance is always the last thing on their mind. Anyway, I figure eventually I'm going to be buying my coveted BMW M3 one day... when I can afford it. In which case it would be nice to know more about German cars and how they work a bit better.
Over the New Years weekend, my wife and I took a trip up to see her cousin in Tumwater Washington(just outside of Olympia). I loved it up there. Its alot different than the other places I've been (and I've driven to upstate New York). With the green everywhere, and I loved the rain. If I ever move out of Utah, that is where I want to move to. Oregon or Washington (nearer to the west coast, as their eastern sides aren't any different than Idaho and Northern Utah) I have some pictures, but they didn't nearly turn out as well as I would have liked. I'm still getting used to the camera and I forgot to bring the book with me so I could read it. I will upload a picture or two to my usual pics spot. I didn't notice untill I got home that my picture of the Space Needle is blury! :( Guess I'll have to go back again to take another :)
