Updates

I'm not sure what to say at the moment... last couple days i've been all sorts of weird moods and, in fear of saying something I shouldn't, I haven't written anything. So, in order to leave things that should not be said to, well not be said. I'm going to end this here.

Has IBM really gone for the throat?

August 17, 2004 Posted by mitch | legal | 0 Comments

The latest... man I'm not quite sure what SCO is thinking as they seem to be backed into a corner now. However, heres the latest: IBM acts to throw out SCO's Linux claims[zdnet] and SCO unfazed by IBM motion for summary judgment in $5 billion lawsuit[newsforge] but I think the best one is IBM Goes For the Jugular -- Files Motion For Partial Summary Judgment on Contract Claims! from GrokLaw. Basically, SCO is saying that "their" interpretation of the License IBM signed is that all of IBM's homegrown code belongs to them (sounds ALOT like the borg doesn't it?). However, who, under any terms, would agree to such a license? Doubtful IBM would. Anyway, in the latest filing by IBM they have gone back and talked to the original creators of their license and included their responces (which say that any clause in the licenses was to protect their System V code, NOT anything IBM added to it). So, IBM is free to release into the public domain or under the GPL as the case maybe as long as NONE of the System V code is included in that release. Which if that wasn't enough IBM goes on to note that they were still able as of August 4th 2004 they were still able to download the 2.4 version of the Linux kernel in its entirety (GPL'd 'n all). Which wouldn't that make any violations by IBM null and void because SCO is now knowingly distributing it? IBM thinks so(and I tend to agree). And yet, if that wasn't enough, Novell has also excused IBM of any wrong doing(because it claims it never gave up its own rights to the System V code which superceed that of SCO's).

Fun stuff eh? Can't wait to hear the ruling from the Judge about it. Because I'm not quite sure how anyone could weasle out of it. Time will tell.

Bought a hat

August 14, 2004 Posted by mitch | life | 0 Comments

My wife and I went shopping today, we bought a bunch of stuff for her, however I got away with a hat. I haven't warn a baseball hat in years... Its going to take a while to get used to wearing one again. However, I'm excited. Not sure why really, but hopefully I'll make good use of it and wear it out. :)

Advanced PHP Programming

August 13, 2004 Posted by mitch | books, website | 0 Comments

I bought this book a couple of weeks ago... I have yet to really open it and read through it.... Which when I bought it I thought I'd be able to jump right into it. However I've been studing for my RHCE test in september... which is comming up and I have ALOT to prepare for... However, hopefully I will dive into this MVC (Model View Controler) pattern for php applications. I know Java's been doing it for a while. I'm just to the point where I really see the usefulness in it. On top of that, it has a chapter about smarty which got me excited :) And as for my blog here... I think I'm going to be rewriting it from scratch again. However, this time I do believe I'm going to stick with it being my own creation. I will allow hopefully easy additions of other php classes and I plan on using some to begin with (smarty and pear) anyhow, hopefully that goes together soon.

More from SCO

Groklaw has an article about the latest crap comming out of SCO. I know I'm tired of hearing it. I really hope this is going to be resolved soon because I get so annoyed with the crap they come out with.

Linode - Virtual Server

August 3, 2004 Posted by mitch | linux, website | 0 Comments

I've been made aware of how cheap virtual servers are getting... Linode has vhosts for $20/month with 3GB of space, and I get root! This is looking very promising to me... I am probably going to be giving up netflix for it, but I feel like its worth it. I mean... my own box that I get root on, but I don't have to host it myself? man... Seems like a deal to me, because then no one could tell me what I can or can't run. I wouldn't really need to know my boxes ip back here anymore...
